New Sites and Apps

I hope your spring break is treating you well!  I have introduced a new site to the 4th graders: Sumdog! It is a very interactive math game site that will help them practice math concepts at their level.  Even better it is completely aligned to our curriculum but will also change its difficulty level based on what each child needs!  The students brought home their usernames and passwords in their assignment notebooks and are encouraged to show you the site at home!

In other great news, Edmodo, the site we use to showcase what we have been reading has launched an app section.  Currently they have a few apps accessible to us for free, and I have loaded them on to our site.  They are mainly math apps, but you can also access Scootpad from here now too.  Try them out!

The One and Only Ivan

Recently we finished the story, The One and Only Ivan, as a whole class read aloud.  After reading the captivating story, the students were asked to continue the story in their own way on Edmodo.  Read to find out how each student would continue the story!

Congratulations Belle!

Belle Tamez was our classroom spelling bee winner and went on to compete in the all school spelling bee this Thursday!  Belle did an amazing job at the spelling bee, and made it all the way to round 6!  She even beat out some students from older grades :) Congratulations Belle, we are very proud of you!

Sledding Fun!

Last week, the 4th graders were given the task of writing to convince me to let them go sledding.  This was one of a few culminating activities for our persuasive writing unit.  The kiddos were able to use their knowledge of topic sentences, using opinion and convincing language appropriately, and staying on topic to write the paragraph.  After writing our drafts we published these paragraphs on kidblog.org.

They did such a great job, and had so many convincing arguments that I was convinced to let them go sledding on our half day, Wednesday.  Take a look at their persuasive writing below, as well as all the fun we had sledding!
