Field Trips and Ellis Island Day

Hey All,

Just wanted to let you know that our field trip to Old World will be rescheduled from June 2nd to June 5th, due to scheduling issues on Old World's end.  I will send home a note with the 4th graders today explaining the change so you can change it on your calendars.

Also, next week, May 9th, the 4th graders will be participating in Ellis Island day.  It is a half day simulation which takes them through an experience similar to what it may have been like at Ellis Island (or as similar as we can make it :) )  We are looking for volunteers to help us make this experience great.  If you or anyone you know  (grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors) would be willing to come spend the afternoon of Friday the 9th of May with us, we would greatly appreciate it!

This Friday is our trip to the Waterloo Trailhead.  The weather looks iffy, but I think the plan is to go rain or shine.  Please remind your child to dress appropriately for the weather :)

Hope all is well with anyone, please let me know if there is anything you need from me!

Field Trip Pictures

Sorry for the delay but I wanted to share with you some pictures from our field trip last month! We had a blast :)

After a fantastic performance at MATC by the WI Symphony Orchestra we went to the Kohl Center.  We got a full backstage tour!

Afterwards, we took a walk around the Capitol!

Finally, we ended our day at the Veteran's Museum

#thekidsneedtoknow

Recently we watched Kid President's video "Kid Presidents letter to babies on their first day here"

At the end of the video he asks us to give advice too under #thekidsneedtoknow

So we made this video with the things we think are most important.

Field Trip Tomorrow!

Just a quick reminder that our field trip is tomorrow!  There has been a slight change in plans in our agenda.  Due to scheduling conflicts we will not be able to go to the capitol tomorrow.  Instead we will head to the Veteran's Museum after touring the Kohl Center.  Please remember to dress appropriately for a concert.  Preferably no jeans (khaki's, solid colored pants, dress slacks, nice shirt: for boys, leggings, dress, skirt, khakis, solid colored pant, nice top: for girls, comfortable shoes: for all.)  If you are bringing a lunch please do not forget as we will not have extra school lunches available.  All students should report to our classroom at the 8:10 bell instead of going outside.  We will be leaving promptly at 8:30 to make it to MATC for the concert in time.

Thank You!

Reading Olympics Recap

Last week the 4th graders accomplished huge goals, by medaling in the reading olympics!  We had many medal winners in the bronze, silver, and gold categories.  Readers had to read 5 books per event to win bronze, 6 books per event to win silver, and 8 books per event to win gold.  What an accomplishment to read so many books across so many genres!  We capped off the olympics by holding a breakfast of champions for all medal winners.  Take a look at all the fun we had!

Unit 7 Math

Here is the Unit 7 Study Link, Family Letter, and Family letter in Spanish.  If you should need another copy please download and print at your convenience.  This unit on fractions can be very difficult for students.  Please talk about fractions as you see them across your lives.  For example while cooking or baking discuss the amount of ingredients you are adding to your recipe.
